The leadership team at Scott Logic has substantial experience building successful, people orientated, technology businesses. We have significant depth of experience running organisations that serve large enterprises and cultivating a culture to exceed our clients expectations.
Gary, originally from Northumberland, set up Scott Logic to build bespoke software for the world’s largest and most complex businesses. Gary holds an MSc in Parallel Computing, and is an expert in software development for financial institutions.
Gary has significant experience of the IT industry. He developed his business acumen over 17 years of working in the heart of global finance, 11 of which were spent at Lehman Brothers. He became Head of Fixed Income Analytics, enjoying great success before returning to his native North-East.
Believing strongly in the world-class talent available locally, Gary founded Scott Logic in Newcastle upon Tyne. Fuelled by his vision and direction, Scott Logic has grown to include offices in Edinburgh and Bristol.
Nigel is responsible for the day to day operations of the consultancy business at Scott Logic. This includes business development, marketing, engineering and delivery.
Nigel has worked in IT consultancy and product businesses for over 20 years after graduating from Newcastle University in 1994. Most recently, Nigel worked for a business similar to Scott Logic and during his 10 years there, he undertook a variety of roles including Head of Development and latterly Head of Delivery. Nigel has worked on projects across a number of sectors including investment banking, commodities, public sector, media and retail.
Outside of work, Nigel enjoys cycling around the Yorkshire countryside, bouldering, theatre and going to gigs to indulge his questionable taste in music (mostly 80s/90s synthpop).
Colin divides his time between leading the R&D team and providing advisory consultancy to clients. Colin has a PhD in physics, and has spent 15 years in industry R&D roles, diversifying between hardware and software.
Widely recognised as a thought leader, Colin has a reputation throughout development circles as an expert in mobile technologies. He has led 25-person development teams working on desktop and web-based software for some of the most influential financial consultancy firms.
Colin also directed the team that developed a Securities Lending System for one for one of the world’s most instantly recognisable banks.
A published author, blogger and tech visionary, Colin still finds time to practice his considerable skills as a 7 ball juggler.
Marilyn leads the People Agenda; managing and guiding HR services, policies and programs. Marilyn has over 25 years senior HR experience in corporations across diverse market sectors. Marilyn has also fulfilled HR Director roles for Arriva plc, Carillion plc and Grainger Trust plc.
Marilyn has a solid history of instilling strong fundamentals within organisations, whilst also maintaining consistency and morale during times of change management. She spearheaded the personnel re-organisation when the acquisition of a rail franchise led to an influx of 5,000 staff to the business.
Her experience in recruitment is also far-reaching, having taken responsibility for an overseas recruitment program that focussed on specialist nurses for the care sector.
Besides her work within business Marilyn is a tennis fanatic and is a keen gardener.
Rob leads the development team within the Newcastle office, with responsibility for attracting and looking after the best developers in the region alongside overseeing work with several key clients.
Prior to joining Scott Logic in 2008, Rob worked for Capgemini UK. His career has spanned development, team leadership, technical architecture and project management with work ranging from financial trading platforms through to large scale public sector programmes. He holds a Computer Science degree from Cambridge University.
Rob has been responsible for managing the delivery of several major capital markets projects at Scott Logic, in addition to providing technical strategy and process improvement advice to clients. He has a keen interest in how to successfully employ Agile practices within large teams. Rob has a wealth of experience with distributed development, and has worked for extended periods in the US, India and Scandinavia.
As Head of Development for Scott Logic’s Edinburgh office Murray is responsible for growing the stable of world-class developers we have in this office.
He has a 1st class Honours degree and a PhD in Computing Science from the University of Glasgow and worked in research both in the UK and abroad before returning to industry. His research interests were primarily focused on HCI, user interface development tools and mobile computing.
Murray has 9 years commercial software development experience, much of which has been spent developing ad-hoc solutions for blue-chip financial institutions around the world and is experienced in enabling his teams to deliver top quality solutions in a timely fashion.
When he’s not acting as ‘Dad’s taxi’, Murray is a keen supporter of St Johnstone FC and hopes one day to witness the end of the near 130 year wait for a major trophy!
Nicholas is Head of Development for Scott Logic’s Bristol office and has 13 years’ experience in software and consultancy including the development of financial services for a major global IT consultancy firm.
He also has experience of building business in a start-up company operating in the telecoms sector, where he delivered a low-latency, massively scalable network diagnosis product. The business was ultimately bought by a large US telecoms company.
Nicholas also has familiarity with managing and developing within the public sector, having worked on providing solutions for the NHS. He holds an MSc in Human Ecology.
As a keen swimmer, Nicholas is the founding member of the Bristol Open Water Swimming Club. He also sings tenor in a local operatic company.
Graham heads up Scott Logic’s UX Design Practice, having grown it from scratch. As well as trying to find and guide the best designers around, he maintains a hands-on, client-facing design role creating beautiful, effective applications.
After graduating top of his Computer Science class at Durham University, Graham joined Scott Logic as a developer before later turning to design. He now has over 10 years’ experience developing and designing for financial services and energy trading institutions, creating everything from direct-to-consumer investment applications to research, trading and analysis tools. Graham’s work always show his delight in challenging the boundaries of what is possible to discover beautiful, effective solutions to problems.
Outside of work Graham can usually be found indulging his love of obscure guitar music, whether that be playing in bands, going to gigs or simply having headphones glued on.
