We’re looking for a Lead Cloud Operations Engineer to work on varying and challenging client projects and to help introduce the tools and processes we need to underpin a Scott Logic target operating model… is that you?

Scott Logic builds large-scale, bespoke, business-critical systems for some of the world’s most high-profile organisations and we’re creating a managed service practice to complement this established and well-respected design and build service offering.

To be suitable for this role, you’ll be an experienced lead-level engineer with significant hands-on experience designing, building, running and maintaining complex production cloud environments. You will be a critical thinker and will be looking for an exciting and challenging role in a thought-leading UK-based software consultancy that prides itself on delivering the best in bespoke software and services to a varied portfolio of global clients.

We will recognise your experience and fundamental skills. If you aren’t getting a chance to use modern technologies and practices in your current role, we can help you to build your skillset.

We’ll help you develop your career further, taking growing levels of ownership. There’s plenty of opportunity to mentor colleagues and we can also help you build your profile: sharing your expertise (blogging or speaking, both internally and externally) and advising our clients.

You’ll be surrounded by smart, highly-capable people in a collaborative environment that encourages helping others by sharing knowledge and experience.

You will have extensive experience:

  • Creating and managing cloud-based networking services such as VPCs, Security Groups, NACLs and IAM roles.
  • Creating cloud infrastructure solutions in any of the major public cloud offerings – AWS/Azure or GCP.
  • Administrating, operating, patching and securing Linux and/or Windows operating systems.
  • Deploying and supporting cloud-based applications that are scalable, resilient and highly available.
  • Modifying and maintaining Infrastructure as Code and using build provisioning tools such as Terraform, Packer, Team City, Jenkins etc.
  • Using configuration management software like Puppet or Ansible and scripting languages like BASH, Perl or Python.
  • Using logging and monitoring systems such as ELK, Sumo, New Relic etc.
  • Using Docker container hosting including Kubernetes.

In addition to this you should have a strong understanding of:

  • Core network protocols and services (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).
  • Bespoke software development and build/deployment automation.
