Scott Logic inducted into Durham University’s Chancellor’s Circle

23 July 2021

Scott Logic has been inducted into the Chancellor’s Circle of Durham University as a life member. This is in recognition of our contribution to the establishment of the Durham Inspired Computer Science Scholarship, and in recognition of our named Scott Logic Lecture Theatre in the university’s new Computer Science and Mathematical Sciences Building.

The Chancellor’s Circle is a special affinity group under the patronage of the Chancellor—Sir Thomas Allen CBE—comprising the university’s leading benefactors who have given transformative donations to Durham initiatives.

On behalf of Scott Logic, our Founder and Chair Gary Scott was presented with a framed certificate and the Chancellor’s Circle Medal at a members’ dinner at the Mansion House in the City of London on 19 July 2021.

We have a long history of working in partnership with Durham University as part of our commitment to supporting the skills pipeline in the North East, aiming to attract and retain the best tech talent in the area.

We have provided investment to establish two scholarship programmes, both designed to address under-representation: the above-mentioned Durham Inspired Scholarship programme which aims to encourage more students from the North East to study at Durham University; and the Masters Scholarship which aims to attract international talent to the region from developing countries to pursue advanced mathematical study at the university.

Scott Logic staff also sit on Durham’s External Advisory Board and we work closely with the university and others in the North East to promote close alignment between the curriculum and the needs of the industry. We engage with students through lectures and interactive workshops, and we sponsor university societies including those supporting women in tech. We offer summer internships (six at our Newcastle HQ in 2019) and we recruit graduates from local universities (18 at our Newcastle HQ in 2019), retaining talent in the region.

We are very proud to have received such a prestigious honour in recognition of our work in partnership with Durham University.
